Youth Advocacy

Young people have the power to shape their future — and their communities. Youth advocacy for a substance-free lifestyle isn’t just about saying “no.”

It’s about saying "Yes" to leadership, mental wellness, authentic friendships, and opportunities that build a strong, confident generation.

Every year, RISE: Otsego Substance Free Coalition empowers youth from across Otsego County to raise their voices at Day at the Capitol in Lansing. This event gives young leaders the opportunity to share their perspectives directly with legislators, advocate for substance-free communities, and influence policies that shape their futures.

By speaking up now, youth not only learn how government works but also prove that their ideas, energy, and commitment can drive real change—today and for generations to come.

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing substance misuse and promoting healthy, drug-free communities.

Founded in 1992, CADCA strengthens community coalitions by providing training, resources, advocacy support.

CADCA also advocates for effective public policy, supports youth leadership initiatives, and hosts national training events to help communities reduce substance misuse and improve overall public health outcomes.

Each year, RISE youth attend the CADCA conference in Lansing. This is a great example of how youth get to exercise their voices to make changes for their future.
